The Keirsey Personality Test is an assessment that helps identify pre dominant personality traits in an individual through a variety of multiple-choice, critical thinking questions. I have completed this assessment and calculated my results based on the given Keirsey Score Sheet.

Out of the four categories, which is: Extravert/Introvert, Sensing/Intuitive, Thinking/Feeling and Judging/Perceiving, I came to the conclusion that I am introverted, sensing, feeling and judging. What is an introvert opposed to an extravert? An introvert is a person who is reserved, quiet and solitary while an extravert is said to be friendly and outgoing. Introverts likes to be alone, thinks before they speak, don’t elaborate and feel more comfortable around known people. On the other hand, extraverts are competitive, outgoing and not aggressive.

Surprisingly the test results were accurate in labeling me as an introvert as this relates to my everyday life. For example, being in the Corps of Cadets is hard for me. I say this because you have to interact with individuals that you sometimes don’t even know. As stated above, introverts likes to be alone, so rather than interacting with individuals, I tend to lead more effectively by myself. Also, instead of my speaking to the individuals first, I have the tendency to let them talk to me. I am stereotyped as a quiet person and not to be messed with. Introverts also come across as more aggressive.

These stereotypes could possibly affect my ability to lead because in order to be a leader, one has to interact with others and be outspoken in most cases. Also, my ability to follow could be affected because if I only deal with people I’m comfortable around, how would I become an effective leader? Last but not least, working with a diverse population could be an effect as well. Working in a diverse population ties into both my abilities to lead and to follow. In conclusion, an introvert could be either good or bad depending on the situation. What things in my life that I have done to show that I am Sensing?

First off, Sensing means to pay attention to physical reality. Also, sensing people tend to notice facts and what is important to them. This fits my personality well because I focus more on detail rather than not caring. Opposed to intuitive people, which are people who are more future focused and don’t really care about now and thinks more about how to go about doing things. In my life today, for example, I take it upon myself to get what I need to get done. Stated above, that is a characteristic or trait of a sensing person. Possibly that could affect my ability to lead, follow and work with a diverse population.

Sensing can place barriers on the ability for you to lead because rather than focusing on how to accomplish a goal you tend to have the urgency to do it on your own without a plan. To follow ties in with the ability to lead because vice versa it is the same just with you under the supervision of another individual. Being sensing will help me develop a goal simply because I rely on detail and not scared to risk a chance to “Just do it. ” Feeling, which is an accurate calculation, is sometimes bad. For example, I make many of my decisions of how I feel about situations.

If I am not comfortable or think someone else is uncomfortable I will step to the side and not participate in the activity/event that is taken place. Also, I have very strong beliefs, morals, for example are very important to me. Honestly, I can say that I am a true believer in GOD, it is not just a statement: it is a lifestyle. When people say negative things about my religion, I take that very personal. Taking things personal could possibly affect my ability to lead. The reason I say this is because not only does a leader have to lead, but they also have to obtain feedback and criticism from other individuals.

My ability to follow could be affected as well because when under another individual’s supervision, you may not always agree on whether something is right or not. So again, this could be a debate because if I don’t agree and I get a negative response from my leader, I take it personal. Thinking I was a Perceiver, found out that I am judging. Reading what that word meant in terms of being a leader for the first time, I was shocked. I say that because I didn’t expect myself to be judging because I thought that I was the type to just go with the flow, which is a trait of a perceiver.

After reading into what it actually meant I understood that the personality trait fits me the best. For example, I cannot do any homework or even go to bed at night if my room isn’t cleaned. Being this way, I have to make a day-by-day schedule to make sure I get all of the important things I need to get done out of the way, because if not, things will not get finished on time. In the long run, could this affect my ability to lead, follow and work with a diverse population? No, I don’t think so because it is good thing to be on schedule no matter what you do in life.

In conclusion, leaders have many different personalities and ways of living. Although, being a female sometimes makes it more difficult to take charge and become a great leader, it should just make one work harder to get their ideas heard. Knowing that I am an introverted, sensing, feeling and judging person I face difficult challenges that I battle with in everyday life. Therefore, no matter what your personality traits are, there will always be obstacles in your everyday life to become a successful leader. My goal as an ISFJ is to become more acquainted and to “Encourage the challenge. ”
